My class notes!

July 3, 2008

i am planning to upgrade my style of teaching and am going to upload my notes at http://www.esnips.com/web/SystemModelingClassNotes for open access. hope this will give a new filip to get me into more interesting aspects.

Although i am handling three subjects, i prefer to do it one by one on experimental basis. So, this will be my only adventure over here in the net for notes.

honestly, this is a option left for me to avoid nagging of students for notes. i can simply ask them refer to site and take whatever they want. they are always more clever than me and hence let us see how they bring about the other excuses.

comments are welcome. i am also interested in uploading in this blog. i am still do not know how to attach pdf files. you are welcome for the solutions.

till then,

enjoy!

I was quite immune to the hype of dasavatharam and got into the loop only just before release. i had chanced upon to listen to its music and felt good about it. Knowing Kamalhasan, the fact that he is acting in multiple roles or associated things like that was not really news. (It is like telling everybody everyday that sun is the provider of light!)so the real test was to see how good the film is rather than seeking what he has done differently.

being a biased fan towards rajni (60% rajni and 40% kamal) also never helps. i always doubt his releases till i see them. for rajni, it is all good and success till it proves otherwise. my only conviction was to pay for the film and see it irrespective of the reviews. that is the least i can do to appreciate the hard work done by the actor and his team.

So when i had the opportunity to watch the film on an idylic sunday afternoon at Kottayam, i was more than eager. it was a ac,dts one and surprisingly full at the begining itself. well, when you have a kamal film with record breaking 80 prints (more than sivaji and other malayalam superstars) in kerala, it is amusing to find the hall full and in demand.

I watched the movie, liked it but felt that more justice could have been done for the following reasons:

(i) enough time is not given for various roles. although it is a give away that kamal is a good actor, it does not mean he should be dressing as if he is in a fancy dress competition. many of them are there to add numbers (get into guiness book at any cost)

(ii) good makeup but conceals facial expressions in some cases expecially that of kalifullah khan. misplaced detours as that of height are ample example to deviate the audience attention.

(iii) logic is same as that of rajni movie. i think probably kamal decided that attending to ten characters is good enough  for the audience. no complaints though…

My picks:

(i) Best song: “Kallai mattum kandal” for its soulful rendering by hariharan

(ii) best act: Vincent poovaragan – a totally detached dimension. well done kamal

(iii) best scene: first one –  the way camera comes and lands in ancient chennai. seamless amalgamation of graphics and reality. better than tsunami scenes

rating: 3.5/5 for content

recommendation: must watch
